John W. Shaw
1831-
John W. Shaw served in the Civil War. He enlisted August 31,1861 Company A 6nth Cav Reg. He mustered out December 12 1864.  John W Shaw claimed Residence in New Liberty. He first married Harriet McCully,on Nov 25, 18555 they had one son William age four in 1860. They are found on the 1860 Census of Pope County Illinois.

John W. Shaw married  Tabitha Evalina Robertson on February 1, 1866. Evalina was previously married to Robert A. Robertson on August 25, 1859
In 1888 Johns Daughter Mary was the ward of William J. Lockerby. He stated her mother was dead and her father hasn't been heard from in over 10 years. So did he leave New Liberty about 1878? He served in the Civil  War from August 1861 to December 1864. He listed Residence as New Liberty. He married Evalina in 1866 a couple years after he mustered out .
I found John W. Shaw with wife Evalina and children on the 1870 Census in Smithland Kentucky (Livingston County). His half brother David Weeks is living in the house next door with his family. I also noticed on this census that John marked the box stating that his father was foreign born.

John W. Shaw purchased land in Pope County Illinois along with his half brothers David, Nehemiah and James Weeks. The first track purchased in 1850 by David and the last tract purchased in  1855 by Nehemiah.
